The Center for Advanced Environmental Research (CAER)

Scientific research and informed public policy through real-time observation and monitoring technologies and infrastructure

Now in design, The Center for Advanced Environmental Research (CAER) is Beacon Institute’s planned research facility for the innovation and development of technologies for real-time observation and monitoring of complex river systems.

Expert teams of scientists, engineers, policy analysts and scholars will collaborate to identify the critical issues related to human interaction with the watershed, and propose solutions to mitigate these impacts.

To be designed with IBM participation, and funded with a significant investment from New York State, CAER will serve as the physical and virtual home for the River and Estuary Observatory Network (REON).

CAER initiatives will focus on innovation and development in three areas of emerging technology:

Croxton Collaborative Architects, P.C.

Beacon Institute for Rivers and Estuaries has announced that Croxton Collaborative Architects, P.C. has been issued a letter of intent to provide professional consulting services for the construction of CAER.

CAER will be constructed on Denning's Point, part of Hudson Highlands State Park, adjacent to an ecologically-significant area in the Hudson and within the heart of the City's active waterfront. Croxton Collaborative's responsibilities will include overseeing programming, design, construction document development, interior design, bid review and recommendations and construction administration for the entire project.

For inquiries about CAER design and construction, please contact Paul Primeau, Project Manager, DASNY.
